Usage Requirements

You can access OASIS both on and off campus using a web browser on any computer that is connected to the Internet. Once you are enrolled at Curtin, you will have access to computer labs on campus.

The following minimum software and display specifications are recommended:

Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. Netscape 7.1 or later (with JavaScript, Cookies and SSL enabled).
- The latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer is available for download from the Microsoft website. .
- Netscape Navigator is a suitable alternative to Internet Explorer and can be downloaded from the Netscape website.
Display: 1024x768 resolution with 256 colours or higher.
- Microsoft Windows users can modify display settings through the Display dialog in the Control Panel.

Computers with different specifications may be able to access OASIS, but Curtin does not guarantee availability of services with such systems. Currently the only supported browser for Mac users is Netscape 7.x.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Enabling cookies
From Internet Explorer's Tools menu, select Internet Options. The Privacy tab of the Internet Options dialog presents you with two choices:
1. Modifying cookie settings for all websites using the slider bar. Setting the slider to Medium High is sufficient enough to use OASIS. The default setting is Medium.
2. Specifying cookie settings for individual websites using the Edit... button. Clicking the Edit... button on the Privacy tab will open the Per Site Privacy Actions dialog. Enter curtin.edu.au in the "Address of Web site" field and click Allow to enable cookies for all Curtin websites (including OASIS). Click OK at the bottom of the dialog box and OK again on the Internet Options dialog to save your changes.
Enabling JavaScript
1. From Internet Explorer's Tools menu, open the Internet Options dialog and click the Security tab.
2. Click the Custom Level... button and scroll down to Active Scripting (in the Scripting category - almost at the bottom). Make sure this is set to Enable.

Netscape Navigator

Enabling cookies
1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. Under the Privacy & Security section of the Preferences dialog, there is a Cookies subsection.
3. Select the Enable cookies based on privacy settings option.
4. Click the View button to further customise cookie handling. Any of the "Low", "Medium" or "High" settings will work with the OASIS website.
Enabling JavaScript
1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. Under the Advanced section of the Preferences dialog, there is a Scripts & Plugins subsection.
3. Enable JavaScript by checking all checkboxes.

Pop-up problems

There have been problems with buttons such as "compose", "reply", "forward" in Student Email.

It has been discovered that Norton Personal Firewall's Ad Blocking feature blocks all popup windows when activated. If you are running this software or similar software with ad blocking features, disable it and then test by clicking the "compose" button in Student Email.

Note that "similar software" may include:

Firewall software
Ad blocking software
Popup blockers
Web browsers with built in popup blocking
Anti virus software

In most cases you will not need to disable the entire program - there should be an option for disabling popup blocking or adding "curtin.edu.au" to a list of safe websites (websites for which you do NOT wish to have pop-ups blocked).
